Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Recognizes Lung Cancer Awareness Month with a Variety of Events
Aventura, FL – Lung Cancer Awareness Month is celebrated nationally each November, and Aventura Hospital and Medical Center together with the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center have taken the lead in raising awareness of the risks associated with lung cancer and the new innovative treatment options available.
On Thursday, November 10th at noon, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center will sponsor a free educational seminar on lung health at the Aventura Recreational Center located at 3375 NE 188 Street in Aventura. Luis Echarte, MD, Critical Care Pulmonology, and Lynn Seto, MD, Cardiothoracic Surgery, will host a community lecture outlining the latest advancements in lung cancer detection and treatment while offering healthy, preventive measures.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for both men and women, according to the American Cancer Society. Although the disease is rare among people under the age of 45, more people die from lung cancer than from colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. Although these numbers include both smokers and non-smokers, the risks are much greater for smokers.
During The Great American Smokeout, recognized on November 17th, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center will kick off its smoking cessation classes for staff and the community. Smoke-free champions will be on hand in front of the cafeteria during 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to answer questions and provide support to those making the decision to become tobacco-free.
Preventative measures, like smoking cessation, comprise only half the battle against lung cancer. The Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center provides patients leading technology in cancer detection, like SuperDimensions—the most advanced and complete lung navigation system. Using a navigation system similar to GPS, SuperDimensions allows physicians to offer pinpoint precision in the diagnosis of lung lesions earlier, minimizing the need for high-risk procedures and maximizing survival rates.
In addition to offering a full range of diagnostic services, the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center offers the first and only Synergy S treatment system in South Florida. This minimally invasive advanced lung cancer therapy provides the advanced treatment capabilities of stereotactic radiosurgery.
To RSVP for the free seminar or to receive more information on the smoking cessation options provided at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, please call 1-888-256-7692.
